Paleo Chocolate Milkshake

This is an old post… that never got posted.  I wrote it when I was pregnant with Avi… it’s crazy to think that was about two years ago.  When I found it this afternoon I was going to rewrite the whole thing and only keep the recipe.  But I wrote it then, and it brought back some memories that have faded.  I had forgotten that I was craving carbs with him and I didn’t remember this was a fix for me!  So I left it the way it was originally written…. read, taste and enjoy!

These days (17 weeks prego) I’m craving some crazy, cheap, BAD for you carbs. I know that usually means I need protein, but in the moment that knowlegde doesn’t help things. We do eat a decent amount of meat and definitely eggs every morning for breakfast, so I don’t think I’m lacking in the protein department!

However, that doesn’t fix the cravings! When leaving our neighborhood we drive right by a Burger King and Wendy’s. Usually I drive by and don’t think twice about them even being there. I don’t crave it nor to I miss their food…. except when I’m pregnant! I drive by and the smells make me salavate! Having a carload of kids is GREAT self-control! Mostly because I know if I cave and get something for myself I’m not going to be able to get away without getting them something too… and there isn’t much they can have.

So.. what are my work arounds? Now that I can have dairy again that has helped A LOT! I’m SO loving my raw milk in my coffee again and raw cheese quesadillas! It’s a beautiful day!

This summer early in the pregnancy I wanted a milkshake specifically from McDonalds, but knew that wasn’t an option since dairy still wasn’t in. So I decided I had better figure out something that was going to suit. After a few trial and errors we came up with these that the whole fam agreed were AMAZING and with these I don’t even miss Dairy Queen or the Blizzards at Wendy’s!

Are you ready to try some creamy chocolately bliss! Give it a go!

Chocolate Milkshake

Paleo Chocolate Milkshake
Ingredients:

  • 3 large frozen bananas
  • 1 can full fat coconut milk
  • 1 cup cold water
  • 1 cup cacao powder
  • 1 cup almond butter
  • ½ tsp mint extract
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 15 dates
  • 2 raw farm fresh eggs
  • 7 ice cubes.

Instructions:

  1. Add bananas through dates into VitaMix and process on high until smoothe.
  2. Add eggs and process on high, but don’t puree for too long or it will heat up the mixture and cook the eggs.
  3. Add the ice cubes at the end and mix on high until cubes are broken up and mixture is thick.

Drink and enjoy! DON’T add any maple syrup or honey or it will be WAY too sweet!

This made about 8 cups of milkshake.

Would love to know what you think!
